A 1.04 ct natural round brilliant diamond, colour H, clarity VS1, HRD report 220000069189, in a six-prong basket setting in 18K white gold. One ring, made in our Antwerp workshop.
H colour, and why it is the sensible grade
H sits in the middle of the near-colourless range. Face-up, in a mounted ring, an H reads white to essentially everyone — the warmth only becomes arguable at J and below, and only then against a whiter comparison. What H gives you is the same visual result as a D or E for meaningfully less money, and that saving is why this ring holds more carat weight than the F VS2 beside it while costing €650 less. If you want the certificate to say colourless, buy the F. If you want the diamond, buy this one.
VS1 and 1.04 carats
VS1 means inclusions are difficult to locate even at ten times magnification and invisible to the eye. It is one grade above the VS2 in the yellow gold ring — a difference no one will ever see, but it is there on the report. The stone is also slightly over the carat mark at 1.04 ct, which in practice looks identical to 1.00 ct and costs a little less per point than crossing the threshold with a rounder number.
The six-prong basket
Six claws hold a round stone more securely than four and distribute pressure evenly, which matters across decades. They also make the outline read as more perfectly circular. The basket beneath lifts the diamond so light enters from below instead of being blocked by a solid base — a small construction detail that does more for brightness than most people expect.
White gold on an H
White metal is neutral: it reflects nothing back into the stone, so an H stays exactly where it was graded. Worth knowing the opposite case — yellow gold would add a trace of warmth and, on an H rather than a D, that is more noticeable. If you want yellow gold at this weight, the F VS2 linked below is the better stone for it.
18K, handmade
Rhodium plated for a cool bright finish; the plating is refreshed as part of normal servicing. A plain solitaire is the lowest-maintenance ring you can own — nothing to loosen, nothing to check.
