Three carats, and what the grades mean here
Let us be direct, because at this price you deserve it. K is a faint-colour grade: the stone carries a visible warmth, particularly against white metal and particularly at three carats, where light travels a long way through the crystal. SI2 means inclusions are readily found under magnification and may be visible to a careful naked eye. Neither grade is hidden on this page and neither should surprise you when you see the ring.
Why anyone buys a K SI2 at three carats
Because the alternative at this budget is a much smaller stone. A 3.03 ct D VS1 would cost several times this ring. The trade a K SI2 offers is size and presence in exchange for grades that a certificate notices and a dinner table does not. Plenty of people make that trade deliberately, and it is a perfectly sound one — the warmth of a K reads as character to some eyes and as a defect to others, and only you can say which you are. What we will not do is describe this stone as colourless, because it is not.
The pear side stones do real work
0.61 ct across two pears, graded I VS1 — two colour grades whiter than the centre. That is not an accident. Placing slightly whiter stones beside a warm centre is a mistake many settings make, because the contrast draws attention to the tint. Here the gap is small enough (I against K) that the three read as one family rather than as a comparison, while the pears still contribute their own brightness. The pear outline also tapers toward the band, which visually narrows the shoulders and pushes the eye back to the centre.
See it in daylight
This is a ring we would particularly rather you looked at in person, and specifically in daylight rather than shop lighting, which flatters warm stones. If the colour reads as honey and you like it, it is a great deal of diamond for the money. If it reads as yellow and you do not, we hold colourless stones of two carats and above at comparable prices — the cushion and the fancy yellow linked below are the two nearest comparisons in the collection.
18K white gold
Rhodium plated for a cool bright finish, handmade in the workshop. Worth noting that white metal is the least forgiving choice for a K stone — yellow gold would harmonise with the warmth rather than contrast against it. We can rebuild this setting in yellow gold if you prefer; ask us.
One piece
A single ring, held in Antwerp, with its HRD report. Ring size and any adjustment to the setting are agreed before the piece leaves the workshop, and we provide a written valuation for insurance.
