A 3.05 ct natural round brilliant diamond, colour K, clarity SI1, HRD report 220000020262, set as a plain solitaire in 18K white gold. One ring, made in our Antwerp workshop.
Three carats, and the trade that makes it possible
A 3.05 ct round brilliant measures about 9.3 mm across — the size at which a diamond stops being jewellery and becomes the thing people look at. Reaching that size at this price means accepting grades below the top of the scale, and we would rather set that out plainly than let the certificate surprise you. K is a faint-colour grade: the stone carries a visible warmth, most noticeably against white metal. SI1 means inclusions are findable under ten times magnification, though on this stone they do not announce themselves to the eye.
What a K actually looks like
Not yellow. K sits three grades below the colourless range and reads as a soft warmth, closer to candlelight than to lemon — the tone antique diamonds usually have, because grading standards were different when they were cut. Many people prefer it once they have seen it beside a D; others find it impossible to unsee. There is no correct answer, only your eye. Two practical notes: warmth shows more at three carats than at one, because light travels further through the crystal, and it shows more in white metal than in yellow.
The alternative, honestly stated
For roughly two thirds of this price we hold a 1.51 ct D VS2 — top colour, eye-clean, half the weight. That is the real decision in front of you: size or grades. Neither choice is more sophisticated than the other. What we will say is that at a distance of more than about thirty centimetres, size is what registers and grades are not, and most people spend their lives being seen from further away than that. Why we set it in white gold anyway
White metal is the less forgiving choice for a K stone; yellow gold would harmonise with the warmth rather than contrast with it. We built this one in white because the plain solitaire form asks for it, and because a good many buyers of large warm stones want exactly that clean modern look. A plain setting at this size
Four claws, a tapered band, nothing else. It is the most exposed setting there is and at three carats every proportion shows: the height of the stone, the taper of the shank, whether the diamond sits level. It is also the ring that needs nothing from you across decades — no pavé to check, no small stones to re-tighten.
