Two natural yellow diamonds, matched for colour and cut, totalling 6.64 carats and mounted in 18K yellow gold. Finding one fancy vivid yellow asscher of this size is difficult; finding two that agree with each other is the reason this pair exists in a single example.
Fancy vivid yellow
Yellow diamonds are graded by saturation, and fancy vivid is the top of that scale — above fancy light, fancy and fancy intense. It is the grade where the colour stops looking like a tint in a white diamond and becomes a colour in its own right. Vivid stones are a small fraction of all yellow diamonds mined, and the premium over fancy intense is steep precisely because the supply is thin.
Why the asscher cut matters here
This is the detail most descriptions skip. An asscher is a step cut: broad, flat, parallel facets arranged like a staircase, rather than the many small triangular facets of a brilliant. A brilliant cut is engineered to bounce light and throw white sparkle, which on a coloured stone competes with the colour itself. A step cut does the opposite — it works like a window into the body of the diamond and shows the colour deep, even and undiluted. That is why step cuts are so often chosen for serious fancy colours, and why a vivid yellow asscher reads far more saturated than a vivid yellow brilliant of the same grade.
Clarity and metal
Clarity VS1 to VS2 — and again the cut makes this significant. Step cuts have nowhere to hide an inclusion: with no brilliant faceting to break up the view, anything inside is visible straight through the table. VS on an asscher is a meaningfully cleaner stone than VS on a round. The 18K yellow gold mount is a deliberate match rather than a default: warm metal around a vivid yellow diamond removes any cool contrast that would pull the colour towards pale.
