Fluorescence refers to a visible glow—most often blue—that some diamonds emit under UV light. While not part of the traditional 4Cs, it can significantly influence a diamond’s appearance and price perception. About one-third of diamonds on the market exhibit some degree of fluorescence.

GIA categorizes fluorescence into five levels: None, Faint, Medium, Strong, and Very Strong. If a diamond’s fluorescence is Medium or stronger, GIA includes both the intensity and the color in the grading report.
