0.30 ct E VS1 on an intertwined band, 18K yellow gold
A GIA-certified round brilliant of 0.30 carat, colour E, clarity VS1, lifted above two strands of 18K yellow gold that cross under the setting. A further 0.06 ct of D–F, VS diamonds is set into the crossing. Report 1559144680.
What a crossover shank does — and what it costs you later
Two strands meeting under the stone give a 0.30 ct diamond something a plain band cannot: apparent lift. The eye follows the curve up to the centre, so the stone sits at the top of a rising line rather than in the middle of a flat one, and it reads larger than its weight for that reason alone.
There is a consequence worth knowing before you buy, and it is the one question we get asked afterwards. A wedding band will not sit flush against this ring. A straight band needs a straight edge to meet; an intertwined shank presents a curve, so a plain band leaves a visible gap at the point where the strands rise. Three ways round it, in order of how often people choose them: have a contoured band shaped to the curve, wear the wedding band on the other hand, or wear it on the same finger but stacked above rather than tight against.
None of that is a flaw — it is simply a design that decides something for you. A plain solitaire leaves the decision open; this one does not.
Why 0.06 ct of melee matters here
Six hundredths of a carat is almost nothing by weight. Set into the crossing, it does one specific job: it marks the line where the strands meet, so the eye reads two distinct bands instead of a single thick one. Remove those stones and the shank looks heavier, not lighter.
E VS1 at three tenths
At 0.30 ct — about 4.3 mm across — a diamond is small enough that clarity below VS is rarely a problem for the eye. Paying up to VS1 here is not about visibility; it is about the resale and the report. Colour E, one grade from the top, is the more visible decision: in yellow gold a lower colour would pick up warmth from the metal and the contrast that makes the stone read as white would soften.

The same idea carried further is the 0.51 ct twist shank solitaire in 18K white gold, where the shank turns rather than crosses. The rest are in engagement rings.
