1.44 ct total weight, D VS1, 18K white gold
A pair of IGI-certified laboratory-grown round brilliants totalling 1.44 carat — 0.72 ct per ear — colour D, clarity VS1, in four-claw studs. Report LG807655167.
Why we hold two almost identical pairs
We list this pair and a 1.40 ct tw pair at the same specification, in the same mount, at the same price. That looks like an error. It is not, and the explanation says something useful about how studs are bought.
Diamonds for earrings are acquired as matched pairs, not as single stones. A dealer sorting a parcel looks for two stones that agree in colour, in clarity, in cut proportion and in outline, and those two travel together from that point on. What nobody does is grind them down to a round number afterwards: removing weight to make a pair total exactly 1.40 would cost real value to buy a tidier figure.
So pairs arrive at whatever they arrive at — 1.40, 1.44, 1.38 — and a jeweller prices them by bracket rather than by the second decimal. Both these pairs sit in the same bracket, so both carry the same price.
The practical consequence is worth stating plainly: at identical money, this pair carries 0.04 ct more diamond, about 0.02 ct on each ear. It is not a visible difference — 0.72 ct measures roughly 5.8 mm against 5.75 mm for 0.70 — but it is free, and the certificates differ, so if the numbers matter to you, they are on the report.
What actually separates one pair of studs from another
Not the second decimal. The things that show on an ear, in order: whether the two stones match each other, how well each is cut, and how securely they are set. Weight to the hundredth is the last of those and the only one printed on the box.
