2.00 ct total weight, D VS1, 18K yellow gold
A pair of IGI-certified laboratory-grown round brilliants totalling 2.00 carat — 1.00 ct per ear, about 6.4 mm each — colour D, clarity VS1, in four-claw studs. Report LG717585402.
The price curve runs the other way
With mined diamonds, price per carat climbs steeply as stones get larger, because large rough is rare and every step up the weight brackets takes you into a smaller supply. That is why a two-carat mined stone costs far more than twice a one-carat.
Laboratory growth does not obey that curve, because size is a function of how long the reactor runs rather than of what the earth happened to produce. Look at what that does across our own lab-grown studs, all D colour, all four-claw, all certified:
- 0.64 ct tw — €740, about €1,156 per carat
- 1.40 ct tw — €1,450, about €1,036 per carat
- 2.00 ct tw — €1,650, about €825 per carat
The per-carat price falls as the stones get larger. On mined goods that column would rise, and steeply. This pair is the clearest expression of it in the range: a full carat on each ear for less than many people expect to pay for a third of that in mined stone.
The comparison inside our own case
We hold both kinds side by side, which makes the point better than any general claim. A pair of natural diamond studs at 1.40 ct tw, D colour and VS1 clarity, is €6,125. The laboratory-grown pair at the identical specification — 1.40 ct tw, D, VS1 — is €1,450.
Same weight, same colour grade, same clarity grade, same mount. The difference is origin, and the certificate states which. We stock both and we are not trying to talk you out of either; but the number is the number, and you should see it before choosing.
Why yellow gold at this size
At 6.4 mm a stud is large enough to be read as a piece of jewellery rather than a detail, and the mount becomes visible in its own right. Yellow gold against a D-colour stone sets a warm outline against a cold centre — a deliberate contrast rather than the near-invisible surround that white metal gives. The claws touch only the girdle, so the gold frames the stones without lending them any colour.

Laboratory grown, certified by IGI
The stones are diamond in every physical and chemical sense; they were grown rather than mined. When one of our lab-grown diamonds is certified, the report is always IGI’s — we do not offer GIA-certified lab-grown diamonds.
Smaller in the same family
The 1.40 ct tw pair and the 0.64 ct tw pair are the two steps below. All of them are in lab-grown diamond earrings.
